Paul’s third missionary journey included correcting false beliefs and facing opposition. As with their previous journey, they again visited the churches in Galatia and Phrygia and encouraged them. Then Paul fulfilled his promise to return to Ephesus, where he ministered for many months, preaching first in the synagogues but then lecturing daily in the hall of Tyrannus. Here we see his perseverance in spreading the gospel and trusting in God’s providence despite difficulties (I Corinthians 16:9). This was his work, his life and business. His heart was totally in it, he took delight in this service, and it was what he pursued in every location we was sent by the Holy Spirit. From the beginning Christ’s message has always been poorly received, and it is no different today. Do not get discouraged. Paul’s example of pressing on is a fine example of recognizing the resistance and moving beyond it to share our knowledge of the truth. The Lord expects us to be strong since He has given us the tools to strengthen ourselves. If we regularly study our Bibles and stay focused on Him, we will receive His strength. Finally we are commanded to do all things in the church with love.
