The significance of what we have come to call Palm Sunday cannot be overestimated as a major prophetic event in the Bible. This day occurs a week before the Passover, which was the day our Lord Jesus was crucified. It is the one day that was prophecied in the Scripture that would be fulfilled by the Messiah Himself as King of Israel and the entire World.
During the time of the Judges the people of Israel were dissatisfied with having Judges (1112 B.C.). They wanted a king so that they would have stability like the other nations, and a standing army that could deal with their enemies that beset them on every side.
Many times, during His ministry the common people sought to declare Him their “king”. He avoided it on all those occasions except on Palm Sunday. After the miracle of feeding the five thousand with a young man’s five loaves and two fishes, many realized that He was the one prophecied in their Jewish Scriptures (our Old Testament) that who would come as their King Messiah: They wanted to make him king. He would not let them until the tight time. This would be Palm Sunday.
