46 Jesus is Our Example

In Scripture, light provides a very powerful image, for light represents all that opposes darkness and evil. We must utilize all given aspects of God’s light:
1. Jesus claimed to be the true source of guidance. We must follow Christ’s leadership and point people to God: “While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. (John 12:36).
2. After salvation we have a new loyalty to doing right. Our conduct should reflect our new allegiance to God. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Colossians 1:13).
3. According to Christ’s standards, we should live above reproach. “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8).
4. Our testimony should radiate God’s goodness. We are to be “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15).
5. We are to serve without becoming enthralled with ourselves and with no compromise. “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Or, what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (II Corinthians 6:14).
