The very first obligation that the apostle provides the Jewish members of the first century Church is to pray for him and the other members of the Christian Church. He acknowledges that the prayers of the saints are necessary for his work. Paul usually requested prayers of the churches to whom he wrote (2 Corinthians 1:11; Ephesians 6:19; Colossians 4:3; 2 Thessalonians 3:1). Mutual prayer for each other is an important part of the communion of saints, in which we help each other, at all times, places, and circumstances. The apostle says that we have a good conscience, which indicates that all of his exhortations and warnings about returning to rabbinic Judaism have been vindicated by his clear conscience. He knows that the warnings are the correct action for them to take regardless of the threats and persecutions they have received from the rabbinic Judaistic authorities.
