An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck in the central Mediterranean Sea region early on Thursday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The epicentre of the quake, about 240 km (149 miles) south-west of Greece’s Methoni region, was at a depth of 10 km, EMSC said.
This is the second earthquake to hit the Mediterranean this month when an earthquake of magnitude 6 struck the Greek island of Crete on May 2, the EMSC said.
On Tuesday, an earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off Nicaragua, causing buildings to sway near the capital Managua, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the 5.1 magnitude quake hit 49 kilometers (30 miles) southwest of Masachapa, Nicaragua.
