7 Reasons We suffer

The implication of suffering is being members of God’s family. If we are children, he says, we are also “heirs” affirming the natural succession from Jesus. We inherited the suffering of Jesus because He suffered first to bring salvation to the world. We are also “joint-heirs with Christ.” This references Christ’s consolation for us that while there is suffering in this world the blessing, He provides us is the certainty that no matter what our circumstances are we have the promise of eternity in paradise. Paul adds another consideration is that we share in His sufferings. Neither Paul nor any other New Testament writer lets us forget that believers do not have an easy path in this life. The Master suffered, and we are called to suffer too. This is an integral part of discipleship. But this suffering is linked to the sufferings of Christ (II Corinthians 1:5; Philippians 3:10; Colossians 1:24; II Timothy 2:11–12; Mark 10:39).
