73–Messiah and Kingdom

In the previous section of Scripture, where God protects Israel He is illustrated as a Lion. God is compared with a strong lion, bold, unafraid, powerful; then with tender and loving birds which protect their nest. He who protects is He who is strong as a lion to accomplish His purposes. The text moves on here to discuss the Messiah. Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:9; Revelation 5:5). He will be the king who runs the government in the Messianic Kingdom. The apostles asked the Lord Jesus at the time of His ascension if He was going to established the long-awaited Kingdom at that time. His answer gave them their mission to receive the Holy Spirit and witness for Him in the earth. This was a summary explanation of the Church Age which proceeds the Messianic Kingdom. This King is none other than the Lord Jesus, the Messianic King who will rule and reign over the thousand–year Messianic Kingdom with Headquarters in Jerusalem. His kingdom will be characterized by Justice and righteousness (Isaiah 32:17). The government in the Kingdom will have Princes as ruling members at the highest level in the future theocracy. Additionally, the apostles will be at the top of the government. Jesus told the Twelve Apostles that in the Kingdom they will be in authority over the Twelve Tribes of Israel. It was recorded by both Matthew and Luke.
