US Vice President Mike Pence on Saturday night condemned the shooting attack at a synagogue near San Diego.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the evil & cowardly shooting at Chabad of Poway today as Jewish families celebrated Passover. No one should be in fear in a house of worship. Anti-Semitism isn’t just wrong – it’s evil,” he tweeted.

“THANK YOU to our law enforcement & the heroic CBP agent who swiftly stopped the perpetrator!” the Vice President added in a second tweet.

US President Donald Trump earlier related to the synagogue shooting and said that the incident “looks like a hate crime.”

“My deepest sympathies go to the people that were affected, the families, their loved ones,” Trump told reporters. “Obviously looks right now, based on my last conversations, looks like a hate crime. Hard to believe. Hard to believe”.

One woman was killed and three were injured in Saturday’s attack at the Chabad of Poway synagogue, located approximately 20 miles north of San Diego.

The attack occurred at just prior to 11:30 a.m. local time.

The suspect, 19-year-old John Earnest, later turned himself into police.

NBC 7 San Diego reported that Earnest released a manifesto shortly before the deadly attack, referencing the recent massacres at a pair of New Zealand Islamic centers.

Earnest claimed responsibility for an arson at an Escondido mosque a month ago. The mosque targeted in the arson is less than nine miles from the scene of Saturday’s attack.
