Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s directive to advance the demolition of illegally built buildings in Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem has sparked outrage throughout the Arab sector. After the heads of the local Arab authorities gathered last week for an emergency meeting regarding the matter, they stated today (Sunday) that they will not let this plan happen.

“We contacted the Prime Minister in order to set up a meeting with him and settle the matter of illegal construction in the Arab sector but our request was rejected,” explained Sakhnin Mayor Mazen Ghanaym, who is also the head of the national committee for the Arab local authorities, to Channel 2 Online.
