BE THE SOLDIER

JEREMIAH 12:5

“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan? “

I think it is safe to say that even the most casual reader of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, would have to agree that the Word of God is a record between the battle of light and dark, of good and evil. I have always been impressed with the Technicolor fashion of how God’s Word describes the believer’s life. One can read historical accounts of kings, kingdoms, and amazing battles on an epic scale. We have studied the great conflicts between the host of heaven and the minions of hell. There are even some accounts in the Bible where God allows us to see behind the scenes where spiritual entities are positioning physical beings in this world like pieces on a chessboard. Paul the Apostle told us that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers against the rulers of the dark world.” How many times do we read that Jesus, when presented with a demon possessed person or someone deeply troubled, rebuked the dark powers that were in control? How encouraging it is that when the disciples witnessed such spiritual warfare that they quickly confessed to Jesus that they themselves had no power to war against such a realm. But Jesus was quick to assure them that the battle was to be fought in the spiritual realm of faith – faith in God’s Word, faith in God’s promises and faith in God’s ability with no faith at all in ourselves.

Today, the Christian is battling a physical manifestation that has its genesis in the spiritual realm. As an example, in California we watch the media and the government engaging in an almost daily campaign against the Bible, the Christian, and most importantly, against God Himself. We are ambassadors of light and are fighting against perversion in our public schools. We are fighting against a runaway divorce rate within the Church. Our state legislators are seeking to pass laws designed to silence the pastor and to marginalize God’s people. On the surface, it looks like the Christian is man’s worst enemy, but in reality, the powers of the underworld are doing the manipulation and that is where our focus must be.

Dear believer, evil will increase and we will be threatened as these things promised in the Bible must come to be. However, how we manage the warfare is all-important. We are never to retreat and we are never to give up, for we have been called to stand firm in the face of opposition just as we’ve been taught in His Word. We need to lean upon His source of courage. These dark days are simply harbingers of the soon coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are not to lose heart and we are not to become weary in well doing. No matter what happens, it cannot happen without our God’s knowledge. Should the world turn against us, and it will, we are to face the evil day and to be a voice of reason and of love and truth.

Fellow Christian, can you see what is coming? Have you not read that the world around us will hate us? Have you not also read that in the end, we win this war? Dear saint, until that day comes, do not retreat, do not run from the evil day, but get involved by prayer and by engagement. Be the solider. Stand against the rising tide of evil, for there is no location or remote address in this world that will save you. To be in the middle of God’s will is to know perfect security and perfect safety for He said He will never leave you nor forsake you.
