The interim government of Bolivia wants Israel to help authorities combat left-wing “terrorism” and alleged plots by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the Bolivian Interior Minister told Reuters on Friday.

Arturo Murillo said the Bolivian police are currently investigating left-wing extremists linked to the Venezuelan government and drug traffickers who, according to Sucre, have caused bloody turmoil in the country after the recent resignation of ousted president Evo Morales.

Murillo said several countries had already helped Bolivia form special police units to fight this “new form of terrorism” and had also asked for Israel’s assistance.

“We invited them to help us, they are used to dealing with terrorists and know how to do it,” Murillo said of the Israelis. “The only thing we want is peace.”

The interim government of President Jeanine Anez strengthened the position of the religious right, renewed close ties with the United States and Israel, and sent hundreds of Cuban doctors and Venezuelan diplomats home.

Last month, Bolivia announced its intention to restore diplomatic relations with Israel , broken in 2009 by the Morales administration, to protest “Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip,” according to the Foreign Minister , Karen Longaric.

“We will restore relations with Israel,” said the head of diplomacy of the interim government of Bolivia, without specifying a date or provide details, during a meeting with the foreign press.
