BREAKING: Iran retaliates against US strikes, fires 3 missiles at American base in Syria

Iran-backed fighters have reportedly fired three missiles at a US military base in northeast Syria today after President Joe Biden approved a retaliatory air strike in response to what is believed to have been an Iranian drone attack that killed an American contractor and wounded five US troops, per Daily Mail.

The report noted that the Iran-supported groups targeted the US base around the Al-Omar oil field at 11 am Friday morning.

Two of the three missiles were said to have fallen into an oil field, with the third landing on a civilian house nearby, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It is currently unclear if the strikes have resulted in any casualties.

The Daily Mail reported that militants launched the airstrikes shortly after Biden had approved the US Central Command forces to execute “precision airstrikes” against infrastructure use by groups close to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, which reportedly killed 11 pro-Iran fighters.

Lloyd Austin, Defense Secretary, said on Thursday that the retaliatory airstrikes were carried out by the IRGC, a branch of the Iranian military that has been designated as a terrorist group the US.
