BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:40 A.M.) – The Russian military activated their air defense sirens at the Hmeimim Airbase this morning after several militant attack drones approached the installation’s northeastern perimeter.

According to a report from the coastal governorate of Tartous, the militant drones were successfully intercepted by the Russian air defenses before they could drop any bombs on the Hmeimim Airbase this morning.

So far this month, the jihadist rebels have attempted to bomb the Hmeimim Airbase on two separate occasions; this has only led to an increase in Russian air activity over the Idlib, Hama, Latakia, and Aleppo governorates.

The Russian military will likely respond to these jihadiT attacks in the coming hours as they launch fresh airstrikes over northwestern Syria.
