There is endless discussion of the actual author of this book. It is not necessary to evaluate that in light of the Lord Jesus naming him as the author. The subject that Jesus referred to in His Olivet Discourse speaking of, the abomination of desolation, (Matthew 24:15–22) is an event that will take place in the middle of the seven-year tribulation period. Jesus referenced the book spoken by Daniel (Daniel 9:27, 11:29–32, 12:11–12), which will be explained in detail when we examine those passages. Suffice it to say it is best simply accepting the Lord’s identification of Daniel as the author. Exactly when the Book of Daniel was written has been a subject of endless debate over the years. One camp in the debate (here known as ‘the Traditionalists’) believe it to have been written by a 6th cent. exile named Daniel. The other side (the Critical historicists or ‘Late-Daters’) believe it to be a late 2nd cent. BC composition (165 BC or thereabouts). This lecture discusses the Authorship, Dating and Outline of the book.
