Darkness spreads in South America; Uruguay, Argentina suffer power outage

Trains halted and traffic lights malfunctioned in the whole of Argentina on Sunday, disrupting local elections, BBC reported.

Electrical supply company Edesur tweeted that a massive failure happened in the electrical interconnection system.

The capital Buenos Aires had been severely affected and so have Mendoza and Comodoro Rivadavia.

 

BREAKING: A massive power failure has left Uruguay and Argentina completely without power, affecting close to 50 million people. Cause for the incident unclear.

Roughly 50 million people are effected by the power-shortage. It is unclear when normal electric power service will resume.
