Attack ‘came as a response to Saudi crimes’ against civilians, Houthi spokesperson says
A special unit of Yemeni Houthi rebels launched Badr-1P ballistic missiles toward a Saudi military camp, killing dozens, spokesperson of the Houthi Armed Forces Yahya Sare’e said on Friday as cited by Almasirah Yemeni TV channel.
Saudi Arabia has yet to comment on the report.
The report further stated that the “missile strike came as a response to the crimes of [Saudi Arabia] and its mercenaries against civilians, the most recent of which was the crime of targeting the market in Munabih border district in Sa’adah, killing and injuring dozens of African immigrants.”
The Houthi-backed Almasirah said that 17 civilians were killed in the Sa’adah attack in northwest Yemen, including 12 African migrants.
Spokesman Sare’e claimed that the missiles hit their targets “accurately,” killing and injuring a number of Saudi-led coalition forces, including commanders.
The Yemeni rebels, who have been fighting the Saudi-led coalition since 2015 as Riyadh stepped in to bolster Yemen’s beleaguered President Hadi, claimed the September attack on the Saudi oil installations that shut half of the kingdom’s production down and sent shockwaves on global markets.
US officials, however, have put the blame on Iran, which backs the Houthi insurgency, and have deployed troops to Saudi Arabia to protect its oil fields.
The five-year Yemen war has claimed the lives of over 100 thousand people, with the Houthis establishing their control over the northern parts of the country.
