Saudi Arabian authorities reportedly foiled an attack on a state security building by members of the Islamic State terrorist group, which claimed responsibility through its official news outlet for the plot in the city of Zulfi, located some 150 miles northwest of Riyadh. According to Saudi media, all four of the perpetrators were killed by security forces, three members of which incurred three non-lethal casualties. The terrorists reportedly planned to use “explosive materials” to inflict maximum damage on the structure. Despite the House of Saud’s rigid interpretation of Sunni Islam, terrorist groups such as al Qai’da, spawned by Saudi native Osama bin Laden, have targeted the kingdom whose leaders are considered heretical largely due to Riyadh’s close political and military ties to the United States.
