“If anyone has seen the peace plan, let us know,” quipped Le Drian.

France’s foreign minister criticized the Trump administration’s peace plan on Saturday, saying its “approach could not grant serenity,” according to the Associated Press.

“If anyone has seen the peace plan, let us know,” quipped Le Drian, adding that it won’t make either side happy.

The so-called ‘Deal of the Century’ Mideast peace plan is facing steep challenges, including political upheaval in Israeli politics as well as numerous failed attempts to convince Palestinians to disavow their leaders, and embrace the US vision of an economic peace first.

Le Drian was in Morocco to prepare a visit by Macron to focus on bilateral relations between the two countries and the ongoing issue of Western Sahara sovereignty.

He was speaking to the press with Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, who also mentioned that Morocco would only take position on the deal after it is published. Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner was in Morocco two weeks ago to build support for the plan.

This comes after French President Macron and Donald Trump’s attempts to show a united front during D-Day anniversary celebrations last week.

During a joint press conference, Macron even seemed to forego the prospect of bringing back the Iran nuclear deal, instead arguing that the US and France were on the same page on Iran, and everything else were mere “technicalities.”

One of the four main points of agreement mentioned by Macron was regional peace, with the French leader implicitly espousing the US view that Iran was a major factor in Mideast instability.

Jean-Yves Le Drian also reiterated in Morocco the EU position that Jerusalem should not be recognized as the capital of Israel.
