Defense Minister Bennett vows to ‘hit back’ at Gaza rocket launchers amid recent escalation
Newly appointed Defense Minister Naftali Bennett threatened Wednesday Gaza’s ruling factions Hamas following a tit for tat overnight of offensive blows between Israel and the Palestinian enclave.
“A rocket that doesn’t hit [a target] will be judged in the same way as one that does. He who fires — will be hit back,” Bennett tweeted.
Gaza’s sovereign terror group responded in a statement of its own, vowing Israel will not be able to dictate new rules of engagement.
“The Israeli enemy is mistaken with delusions if he thinks he will be able to enforce a new equation and engagement rules on Hamas. Hamas and its military wing has the ability to prove the stupidity of the Israeli leadership,” the statement read, as quoted by Hebrew-language outlet Ynet.
Referring to the overnight incidents, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said “Early tonight [Tuesday], rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at Israeli territory. In response… IDF fighter jets and aircraft struck a number of additional Hamas terror targets in the northern Gaza Strip.
“Among the sites targeted was an underground infrastructure,” the IDF said.
Mayor of southern city of Sderot Alon Davidi attacked the Israeli government amid its “lack of leadership.” Speaking to Ynet, he said that its “conduct toward the residents of the south, residents of Sderot and the Gaza periphery communities, is immoral and in fact grants clear immunity to [Islamic] Jihad and Hamas terrorists.”
Davidi further stated that the Israeli administration makes sure those terrorists know that “they can keep living in Gaza and fire rockets on us, while the children of Sderot keep sleeping in bomb shelters.”
