This is a developing story

The Israeli military said on Friday that one projectile launched from the Gaza Strip was launched towards Israel, setting off a rocket alert in Israel’s south.

No damage to infrastructure or injuries have been reported. Initial reports suggest that the projectile was allowed to land in an open area.

Earlier on Friday, a Palestinian teenager was killed by Israeli fire near the Gaza border, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said in a statement.

Four others were also reportedly wounded. Weekly protests, known as the “Great March of Return,” along the Gaza border fence have subsided in recent weeks after nearly 18 months of demonstrations.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar reported Friday that talks over the past two days have resumed between Hamas and Israel through Egyptian, Qatari and UN mediators over a long-term truce agreement, which also cover the issue of a prisoners swap deal.

According to the report, in return for long-term calm in Gaza, construction of new facilities are being considered for Palestinians, such as a Turkish-funded desalination plant, a new US-funded hospital, and a new power station.
