There was an improvement on Sunday in the medical condition of Israel Meir Nachumberg, who was wounded in the stabbing attack in Jerusalem’s Old City on Friday, according to Hadassah Ein Kerem’s spokeswoman Hadar Elboim.

Nachumberg was transferred from the intensive care unit to the hospital ward when he was in mild condition.

On Friday morning, a 19-year-old terrorist from the West Bank, who had allegedly come to the Temple Mount for Ramadan to pray, stabbed and critically wounded a 47-year-old man at the Damascus Gate and minutes later, while running through the Arab market, the terrorist stabbed 16-year-old Nachumberg.

The teenager and his brother were walking through the Muslim Quarter’s Arab market while on their way back from praying at the Western Wall just before 6:30 a.m.

“We were walking back from praying at the Western Wall when he [the terrorist] came from my right side, jumped at my brother and stabbed him in the back. The knife was full of blood,” Nachumberg’s brother said.

“I remember someone coming behind me, I thought he punched me and suddenly I saw a long knife full of blood,” Nachumberg recalled the events. “I ran toward the Hurva synagogue and called for help, and by the grace of heaven I got out almost unharmed, the doctors treated me quickly, it was a divine miracle. He stabbed me near the spine.”

Nachumberg added that, “it hurts a little, I cannot take deep breaths, my brother was beside me and luckily nothing happened to him, I came to Jerusalem to study on Friday night and from there I regularly go for morning prayers at the Western Wall. I will continue to pray and go to the Western Wall.”

Nachumberg’s father, Rafael, who arrived at the hospital, told Ynet: “My son just returned from the synagogue to the yeshiva – and the terrorist attacked him.”

There is no update on the condition of the 47-year-old who was also stabbed at Damascus Gate, sustaining several stab wounds to the chest, neck, head and upper body.
