The Chief of Staff, Major General Aviv Kochavi, made a speech this morning (Wednesday) at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, in memory of the 15th Chief of Staff, Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, on “IDF – Challenges and Response”.

“Like many people, Amnon was an exemplary figure for me as well. I knew him well, had an extraordinary ability to analyze situations, and accurately refine them,” he began his speech to the Chief Rabbi Kochavi. 

Later, the chief of staff, among other things, addressed the security incidents on the agenda: ” War is the last resort, but in all cases the solution is a solution. Once forced, we will exert all the power of the IDF. When we act, we do so out of the righteousness of the road and morality. The IDF defends its mission and attacks in character. ” 

“There is a profound change in the region and there is a worsening of the threats,” added Rahal Kochavi, “more enemies, more arenas and everyone is active. We make a great effort, visible and covert, not to allow our enemies to be equipped with accurate weapons, even at the cost of confrontation. Iran, along with the nuclear program’s restrictions, continues to produce missiles that reach our territory, doubling the amount of enriched uranium it possesses. ” 

“In the next war, we will forcefully attack the urban space. It is the enemy that has chosen to settle and fire thousands of missiles and rockets,” the chief of staff continued. “The difference between us and our enemies, who do not spare their citizens, is that we will attack with intelligence based intelligence. We will attack anything that supports terrorism. ” 

At the conclusion of his speech, the chief of staff emphasized the importance of the personnel in the IDF: “People are the most important thing. I am very proud of people and individuals. Chiefs of the world come to learn from us. The basic principle we have engraved on our flag is that man is precious. The best must remain with us – the key is leadership, creating meaning, interest and a place for expression. The quality of the IDF is a national issue.
