Tehran calls on the US for compensation should a Biden Administration take over in January 2021 amid the devastating effects of President Trump’s ‘maximum pressure’ campaign.
The Iranians are now calling for the removal of sanctions implemented on them from the Trump administration and its ‘maximum pressure’ campaign amid their hope that a Biden administration will commandeer the White House in January.
In addition to their demands for the removal of sanctions, which were implemented after the White House formally withdrew from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018, the Islamic Republic is also making demands for economic/financial compensation. These demands come in the wake of the devastating economic effects that have taken place from US sanctions over the last few years.
Several Iranian officials voiced their feelings towards the current US administration in a rather transparent manner. The first Iranian vice president, Eshaq Jahangiri, tweeted, “I hope we will see a change in the destructive policies of the United States … finally … the era of Trump and his adventurous and belligerent team is over.”
Joe Biden has already vowed to re-enter the JCPOA, which is a major concern, as it was this deal that enabled the Iranians to further their nuclear agenda – and the US paid them to do it. Should a Biden administration become a reality, Tehran has already stated that has no intentions of slowing down its missile program.
However, the former vice president is yet to be the official president-elect of the United States, which could have the Iranians hoping in vain.
