The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement rejecting the United Nations (UN) General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution against Holocaust denial, describing it as “the international mechanisms by the Zionist regime to cover up its crimes.”

The Iranian mission to the United Nations in New York, in a statement, officially expressed Iran’s position regarding the Holocaust resolution, emphasizing that, “The racist Zionist regime is using international bodies to cover up its daily crimes against the Palestinians.”

The statement also criticized supporters of Israel and the resolution, saying “The Zionist regime’s act is another attempt to abuse the UN mechanisms to cover up its daily crimes, which unfortunately has been accompanied by the West’s unequivocal support.”

Iran proceeded to accuse Israel of being a continuation of the Nazi government, stating: “It is clear to everyone, the Second World War crimes were resulted due to racism and expansionism, which the Zionist regime now inherits and bears the flag of these two evil temperaments.”

Iran’s statement claims that Iran rejects the concept of genocide and worked to help victims of the Holocaust: “Iran has always condemned genocide under any condition and considers it as unjustifiable and that is why during World War II, Iran hosted the refugees from some European countries.”

A lengthy list of accusations against Israel follows, declaring that, “The fake Zionist regime has constantly tried to use the victims of World War II and the Jews as a justification for its shameless and aggressive actions. The regime and its leaders have committed all kinds of crimes, especially crimes against humanity, against the Palestinian people and the regional people, in violation of international law.”

It also alleged that, “Genocide, assassination, ethnic cleansing, destruction of homes and human siege are among the crimes that the Zionist regime is constantly committing.”

The statement concludes that “The prevention of historical catastrophes requires historical research that should be done without political judgment and prejudice. Therefore, such restrictive approaches are not acceptable, such a resolution is not considered as a consensus approach and is therefore rejected.”

Alon Ushpiz, Director-General of Israel’s Foreign Ministry responded: “Only one country rejected the UN resolution condemning Holocaust denial, the same country bent on destroying the Jewish state, the same country now aspiring to develop nuclear weapons.”
