Israel at war – Live updates: Rocket fire on southern Israel restarts after hours of quiet

Israel entered its second week of war, which has been dubbed “Swords of Iron,” on Saturday. The war was sparked on October 7th, when the Hamas terrorist organization launched a surprise attack by land, air, and sea. After a heavy barrage of several thousand rockets, Hamas terrorists invaded Israeli territory, infiltrating military bases and civilian population centers, where they massacred the inhabitants and took others captive. As of Sunday, October 15th, over 1,300 Israelis have been killed, about 3,400 were injured, and at least 100 Israelis, including civilians, are in Hamas captivity.

Since last Saturday, the IDF has been striking terror targets in the Gaza Strip as Gaza terror organizations continue to fire rockets into Israel. At the same time, terrorists in Lebanon and Syria have also targeted Israel with missile attacks. The IDF has retaliated to those attacks with tank and artillery fire, as well as airstrikes.

Friday, 6:23 a.m.: Security forces operated in the village of Urif in Samaria overnight Thursday to demolish the home of one of the terrorists who carried out the shooting attack at the gas station in Eli, in which four Israelis were murdered.

Friday, 5:36 a.m.: News agencies reported “increased military activity in the Gaza Strip” overnight Thursday.

Among other things, there was a report of a strike which hit Al-Bureij refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip.

Friday, 2:35 a.m.: A meeting of the political-security cabinet concluded after a discussion that lasted about six hours.

Thursday, 11:07 p.m.: Four rockets were fired towards Tel Aviv, two of which were intercepted. There are no reports of physical injuries or damages.

Thursday, 10:58 p.m.: Missile sirens sounding in central Israel, Tel Aviv.

Thursday, 8:32 p.m.: Missile sirens sounding in central Israel.

Thursday, 6:10 p.m.: MDA EMTs and paramedics tended to three individuals who were injured by the force of the blast after a missile fell in Kiryat Shmona. The three, a 75-year-old man in moderate condition, a 30-year-old man, and a five-year-old girl in light condition, were taken to the hospital.

Thursday, 5:35 p.m.: Reports of a missile directly striking a building in Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel.

Thursday, 5:00 p.m.: It is estimated that at least 20 missiles were launched into Israel from Lebanon in the past hour.

Interceptions were filmed in Shlomi. Exchanges of fire are taking place on the Lebanese border. MDA stated that no reports of injuries were reported.

The Hezbollah terror group took responsibility for the anti-tank munitions launches toward Manara earlier in the day.

Thursday, 10:50 a.m.: Carmela Dan, 80, and granddaughter Noya, who is autistic, are identified among those massacred by Hamas in Nir Oz.

Thursday, 10:39 a.m.: The IDF has raised the number of confirmed hostages to 203; 306 soldiers have fallen in the war against Hamas.

Thursday, 5:40 a.m.: Palestinian Arabs reported that one person was killed in clashes with Israeli security forces in the village of Budrus in the Ramallah region.

Thursday, 2:46 a.m.: The Foreign Ministry has issued a warning to Israeli citizens not to travel to the Maldives.

“The atmosphere in the Maldives against Israel is intensifying and therefore Israeli citizens are advised to avoid traveling to the Maldives at this time,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Thursday, 2:03 a.m.: Media in Lebanon reported that the IDF strikes in Lebanon targeted Kafr Shuba, located in the southern part of the country.

Thursday 1:54 a.m.: US President Biden will address the nation to discuss the response to Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel and the war in Ukraine.

The White House said that the speech will be delivered on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET (3:00 a.m. Israel time).

Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.: IDF tanks destroyed two posts in Lebanon from which anti-tank fire toward Israeli territory was identified.

In addition, IDF forces struck a post from which an anti-tank missile was launched toward the Metula area a short time ago.

At the same time, IDF forces identified shots being fired toward the Mount Dov area. IDF forces are returning fire.

Wednesday, 5:27 p.m.: Missile sirens sounding in northern Israel.

Wednesday, 5:05 p.m.: A senior diplomatic official says that Israel will refuse humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip as long as they do not return the hostages.

In light of US demands, Israel is considering alternate options that will ensure the provision of minimal food, medications, and water through Egypt to ensure life on condition they do not reach Hamas.

Wednesday 4:50 p.m.: Terrorists in the past few hours fired several anti-tank munitions toward the Manara and Rosh Hanikra areas near the Lebanese border. The IDF attacked the sources of the fire and is continuing to strike Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon.

Wednesday 4:45 p.m.: ZAKA volunteers have located the bodies of a child and a woman in a burnt house in Kibbutz Be’eri.

Wednesday 4:30 p.m.: The IDF published footage from the parking lot of the hospital in Gaza, which was hit by an errant Palestinian Islamic Jihad missile launch.

The footage shows that the surrounding buildings were not damaged and that there was no impact crater: “This is additional proof that the IDF did not bomb the area.”

Wednesday, 4:05 p.m.: An anti-tank missile was fired at IDF soldiers on the Lebanese border. The IDF is responding with artillery fire.

Wednesday, 3:35: Shots were fired from a light weapon toward the Jewish village of Zra’it near the Lebanese border, no injuries are reported.

Wednesday, 11:46 a.m.: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a joint statement with US President Joe Biden: “1,400 people were killed. The world needs to unite to defeat Hamas, as the world defeated ISIS. Israel is united.”

Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.: IDF spokesman holds briefing for foreign media, proving that the missile which hit a Gaza hospital on Tuesday night was not one of Israel’s. In addition to the aerial footage, there is a recording of Hamas terrorists discussing the hit, describing the shrapnel at the site as “local” and “not Israeli.”

Wednesday, 6:54 a.m.: Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing anti-tank missiles at the town of Shtula, on the border with Lebanon, overnight Tuesday.

IDF troops responded with artillery fire toward the origin of the fire. .

Wednesday, 5:37 a.m.: The US State Department has raised its travel alert for Lebanon to “do not travel,” citing the security situation related to rocket, missile, and artillery exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah.

The announcement came after Hezbollah declared that Wednesday would be a “day of rage” against Israel.

Wednesday, 5:10 a.m.: Former IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi commented on the Hamas attack on Israel in a recorded speech that was broadcast at a fundraising event for Friends of the IDF in the United States.

“This is a severe blow on a personal and public level, but we will overcome it,” said Kochavi and added: “The State of Israel will no longer be able to accept the existence of a terrorist entity on our borders, and the IDF has decided to eradicate Hamas. The organization’s fighting infrastructure is spread throughout the length and breadth of the Strip, within a civilian population, so it will take time.”

Wednesday, 4:44 a.m.: White House spokesperson John Kirby said on Tuesday that the number of Americans killed in the Hamas attack on Israel now stands at 31.

Wednesday, 3:50 a.m.: US President Joe Biden will ask “tough questions” during his visit with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli leaders, White House spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Tuesday night.

Kirby said that during his visit to Israel, Biden will also meet with the families of those killed in the Hamas terrorist attack and with the families of abductees.

Wednesday, 3:04 a.m.: A short while ago, a report was received regarding anti-tank missile fire toward IDF soldiers in the area of Shtula and the area of the security fence between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF is responding with artillery fire toward the origin of the fire.

Wednesday 12:58 a.m.: US President Joe Biden’s airplane, Air Force One, took off from Andrews Air Force Base for Israel.

Wednesday, 12:29 a.m.: The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the cancellation of a summit which had been scheduled to be held on Wednesday between US President Joe Biden, King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Tuesday, 11:24 p.m.: In response to the shooting incidents toward Israel from Lebanon over the last few days, a short while ago, IDF fighter jets struck an observation post and military infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Lebanon.

Tuesday, 10:00 p.m. A large rocket barrage was launched at central Israel, shortly after rockets were launched at Ashkelon.

Tuesday, 8:36 p.m. The IDF says it is investigating after Hamas claimed 200-300 people were killed in an airstrike on Baptist Hospital in central Gaza.

Tuesday, 8:34 p.m. The death toll among IDF soldiers in the war with Hamas has risen to 302.

Tuesday, 6:40 a.m.: General Michael “Erik” Kurilla, head of US Central Command (CENTCOM), made an unannounced trip to Israel on Tuesday.

“I’m here to ensure Israel has what it needs to defend itself, particularly focused on avoiding other parties expanding the conflict,” Kurilla told Reuters.

Tuesday, 5:34 a.m.: The New York Times is reporting that Israel has asked the US for emergency aid in the amount of $10 billion.

According to the report, the White House is formulating a bill to provide aid to Israel, which will link it to the aid that the Biden administration wants to provide to Ukraine.

Tuesday, 3:44 a.m.: The IDF struck terror targets and military infrastructure of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Lebanon, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.

Furthermore, IDF fighter jets killed several Hamas terrorists inside of a military compound belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization.

Monday, 12:54 p.m.: A diplomatic source said, “There is no ceasefire. There is no entry of merchandise of any kind. There are US demands on the humanitarian issue. At this stage only water may be brought into southern Gaza, which is where there is supposed to be an area for humanitarian evacuations.”

Monday, 12:44 p.m.: A loud explosion was heard in Tel Aviv due to a missile that fell into the sea. The missile did not set off a missile siren because it was heading toward the sea.

Monday, 12:00 p.m.: Following the recent Red Alert sirens in the Ashkelon and Ashdod regions, at this time no reports have been received of rocket falls or casualties.

Monday, 10:41 a.m.: German media reports claim that Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz will arrive in Israel on Tuesday.

Monday, 9:40 a.m.: The Prime Minister’s office has denied reports that a humanitarian ceasefire had taken effect in the southern Gaza Strip at 9:00 this morning and stated that “there is currently no ceasefire and humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of foreign nationals.”

Monday, 9:12 a.m.: Israel’s Defense Ministry, together with the IDF, has announced that Israelis living in more than two dozen communities on the northern border will be evacuated.

“The Israel Ministry of Defense’s National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announce the commencement of a national initiative to evacuate Israeli residents living within 2 kilometers of the Israeli-Lebanese border in 28 towns to guesthouses subsidized by the state,” the Ministry and IDF said in a joint statement.

“The implementation of the program was approved by Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant. The IDF Northern Command recently notified the heads of the local municipalities regarding the decision. The program will be led by the local municipalities, the Interior Ministry, and the Ministry of Defense.”

Monday 5:21 a.m.: Palestinian Arab sources reported that the Israel Air Force struck targets the Gaza Strip at least 20 times overnight Sunday.

Some of the reports claimed that these attacks were the “toughest” since the beginning of the war.

Sunday, 11:00 p.m.: Sirens were sounded in communities located near Israel’s border with Gaza.

Sunday, 10:24 p.m.: IDF says that fighter jets, helicopters, and aircraft are continuing to strike terror targets in the Gaza Strip. Throughout the day, the IDF struck approximately 250 military targets – mostly in the northern Gaza Strip.

Based on precise ISA and IDF intelligence, Muetaz Eid– the Commander of the Hamas Southern District of National Security, was killed.

Furthermore, dozens of military headquarters, a series of military observation posts, and a number of rocket launching posts used by Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations were struck.

Sunday, 9:33: Missile sirens sound in the coastal plain.

Sunday, 8:35 p.m.: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken promised that the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt will be open. In a press conference after meeting with after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Blinken stated: “Rafah will be open. We’re putting in place with the UN, with Egypt, Israel, with others, the mechanism by which to get the assistance in and to get it to people who need it.”

Sunday, 6:55 p.m.: Missile sirens sounding in central Israel, Tel Aviv.

Sunday 5:30 p.m.: Energy and Infrastructure Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the water supply has been restored to parts of the southern Gaza Strip. “The decision to open the water in specific locations for the residents of the southern Gaza Strip, which was agreed on between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Biden, matches our policy and allows us to tighten the unprecedented general siege on Gaza, without electricity, without water, without gas, until Hamas is erased,” a statement from Katz’s office read.

Sunday, 5:20 p.m.: IDF attack helicopters are striking military infrastructure in Lebanon. At the same time, reports have been received regarding shots being fired at IDF forces on the Lebanese border. IDF forces are returning fire.

Sunday, 4:07 p.m.: Missile sirens sound in the communities of Shlomi, Betzet, and Rosh Hanikra and the city of Nahariya in northern Israel.

Sunday, 3:25 p.m: According to the IDF, a report was received regarding anti-tank-missile fire toward an IDF military post along the border of Lebanon.

Sunday, 1:55 p.m.: Red alert sirens were activated in numerous towns and cities in central Israel, including Tel Aviv and Herzliya, as Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip launched a massive rocket barrage at the center of the country Sunday afternoon.

No reports have been made of injuries as a result of the rocket barrage so far. Magen David Adom reported that it was dispatching personnel to the area following the sirens.

Earlier, a rocket struck a building in the southern city of Sderot. No one was injured in the rocket strike.

Southern Israel has been under rocket fire from Gaza all day.

Saturday, 11:48 p.m.: The Home Front Command has released a map detailing the various restrictions in each area of Israel. In Eilat, the Arava region, the southern Negev, and some of the communities near the Dead Sea, schools will be open as usual, with no restrictions.

In the majority of Israel, including Jerusalem, it will be possible to hold educational activities so long as students and staff can reach an appropriate shelter within the necessary time frame.

In the Gaza border region, western and central Negev, western Lachish, Lachish, lowlands, Dan region, the northern armistice line, the northern Golan, and some areas of the southern Golan, schools will remain closed.

Following confusion on the matter, the Jerusalem municipality stated: “Tomorrow, there will be no school in the city of Jerusalem, in all educational institutions, from daycares through high schools.”

“For any update on the matter later in the week, a notification will be sent to residents.”

Saturday, 8:56 p.m.: The IDF has confirmed that earlier on Saturday, IDF aircraft, artillery and tanks struck several military targets of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Lebanon in response to the mortar shells launched toward Israeli territory.

Saturday, 8:31 p.m.: MK Avigdor Liberman and his Yisrael Beytenu party have joined the emergency government and the Cabinet.

Earlier on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Kibbutz Be’eri and Kfar Aza.

Saturday, 7:31 p.m.: The police have published the names of three additional police officers who fell in battle, bringing the number of fallen officers to 51.

Saturday, 7:23 p.m.: Over Shabbat, air raid sirens sounded in central (Friday at 8:00 p.m. and 9:59p.m.; Saturday at approximately 11:30 a.m. and 5 pm) and southern (throughout Friday night and Saturday) Israel.

An infiltration attempt was reported on Friday night for the haredi city of Beitar Illit and for the town of Ma’ale Efraim, and shortly afterward, the situation was declared to be safe. In Gornot Hagalil in northern Israel, an infiltration attempt was reported at 12:51 Saturday afternoon; in Ma’aleh Michmash, an infiltration was reported at 2:05 a.m. Saturday morning. Hostile aircraft infiltrations were reported in Shfar’am and I’billin at 1:10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Saturday, 7:14 p.m.: Two people were critically injured Saturday in an ammunition explosion in the northern city of Nahariya.

Magen David Adom evacuated the injured to a hospital. The incident is being investigated.

Saturday, 7:08 p.m.: The IDF and ISA targeted a company commander of the Hamas “Nukhba” commando forces who led the Hamas terror attack against Israel

Saturday, 7:06 p.m.: The Russian Embassy in Israel has reported that 16 Russians have been killed so far in Hamas’ attack on Israel, and eight Russians are missing,

Russia’s RIA Novosti reported that at least one Russian citizen is being held hostage in Gaza.

Saturday, 7:04 p.m.: A number of mortars were launched towards Israeli military sites from Lebanese territory, the IDF said. The IDF returned fire towards the location from which the rockets were fired.

Saturday, 7:02 p.m.: The US has informed citizens who registered through the Embassy’s crisis page that emergency flights are available Saturday night through Sunday.

The flights will not be to the US, but to the first available safe location. Citizens will be required to sign a promissory note committing to repay the US government the cost of the flights, and will be responsible for their own accommodations and the rest of their journeys.

Those wishing to depart Israel were asked to arrive at Ben Gurion Interantional Airport and be prepared to wait until an appropriate flight is found.

Saturday, 6:59 p.m.: On Saturday afternoon, Al Jazeera reported that nine hostages, including four foreign nationals were executed Saturday by Hamas. According to Hamas, the executions were in revenge for Israel’s strikes on Hamas military buildings.

Initially, Hamas’ military wing had claimed that the hostages were killed in Israeli air strikes in Gaza.

Saturday, 12:13 a.m.: Three rockets fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in the city of Sderot. The municipality said that one of the rockets caused a fire in a house and a power outage in a residential neighborhood in the city was reported. There are no injuries.
