Delivery carried out under US-Israel 2019 agreement for procurement of two Iron Dome Defense System batteries
The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) has delivered the first batch of Multi-Mission Radars (MMR) manufactured by ELTA Systems to the US Army, to be used in conjunction with two Iron Dome Defense System batteries, and part of an August 2019 procurement deal.
The IMDO is part of the Defense Ministry’s Directorate of Defense R&D (DDR&D).

On September 30, the first radar was officially handed to the US Army; the second will follow shortly. “The MMR radars delivered within the framework of this agreement will be employed in the defense of US troops against ballistic and aerial threats,” according to Israeli outlet, Globes.
According to Israel Defense, MMR is “widely deployed and integrated by partners around the world,” and has evolved over several iterations to now offer capabilities for “air surveillance, air defense, hostile artillery location and friendly fire ranging.”
“We are proud to supply our most advanced systems to our allies, the US Army,” said Yoav Tourgeman, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) vice president and ELTA CEO. “The MMR radar addresses a broad range of needs by locating and tracking incoming rockets and artillery shells and by providing a comprehensive aerial situation assessment. The MMR radar will maintain our allies’ military edge. The demand for mobile, combat-proven MMR systems is on the rise.”
A fully mobile system that carries 10kg of explosives, it can intercept incoming aerial threats from four to 70km away, reported The Jerusalem Post. “The radars can be used in multiple simultaneous operations and for rapid maneuvring purposes can be transported on a single vehicle.”
