Israel’s navy controls fire on Turkish freighter opposite Haifa

Israel’s Navy and policy took control of a fire that erupted on a Turkish cargo ship, the MSC Canberra, opposite Haifa on Saturday morning, when unidentified stowaways tried to seize the vessel. The Panamanian-flagged ship sailed Friday from Turkey’s Mersin and was bound for Haifa on Saturday before heading for Ashdod port. Israel’s censor has imposed a blackout on further details of the incident, except that that it was criminal in nature and not terror-related. MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, the shipping conglomerate headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, that chartered the ship has not yet commented.
