Kremlin: Putin and Trump may meet before G20 Summit

In an interview with a program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” on Russia 1 TV channel the Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that a full-format meeting between Vladimir Putin and the US President Donald Trump might take place a day before the G20 Summit in Osaka.

Peskov noted that there had been no initiative from Washington on the meeting of the Presidents. He added that in this case, it is necessary to “pay close attention to the details.” “Trump previously said that he “will meet with the Chinese, Russian and representatives of other countries.” Maybe he thinks of quick meetings with other Presidents,” — said Peskov.

He said that Presidents would not be able to discuss all the issues that are on the agenda during the “quick meetings,” but it will be possible to agree on a full-format meeting on the eve of the G20 Summit.

Information that Putin and Trump should meet soon appeared in the media several times. On June 12 Peskov commented on messages on a possible meeting for the fifth time and didn’t confirm conversations about it. Then the Press Secretary said that Washington still did not initiate a meeting.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted on June 12 that the American side is not taking any action, as the desired format and date of the meeting is not decided yet. Trump’s meeting with Putin was also discussed in May when the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with the President of Russia in Sochi.
