Kushner labeled the Palestinians response to the US efforts ‘hysterical and erratic’

The United States will release the “next steps” in the administration’s proposal for Israeli-Palestinian peace “probably next week”, White House adviser and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner said Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters a week after the US-led summit in Bahrain which unveiled economic aspects of their long-awaited peace proposal, Kushner said they saw a lot of enthusiasm in Manama.

The Palestinians boycotted the event, claiming US bias towards Israel and their unwillingness to discuss economic proposals before political issues are discussed.

Kushner labeled the Palestinian response as “hysterical and erratic and not terribly constructive.” Still the president’s son-in-law and peace plan architect said despite all the hostility between the US and Palestinians, Trump was open to meeting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.Prew

President Trump “likes him very much personally and, at the right time, if they’re willing to engage I believe that they’ll find that they will have an opportunity,” Kushner said.

Asked about criticisms of the event which failed to mention a two-state solution or any political realities, Kushner insisted, “It was meant to be devoid of politics. I call this ‘uninformed criticism.’ We should ask the Palestinian leadership what they are doing to improve the life of their people. They often say things that are colorful soundbites, but beyond that I urge you to ask them what they are doing.”

Calling the plan “dead on arrival” Palestinians have slammed the forthcoming US proposal as blatantly biased towards Israel, citing the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer of its embassy and slashing funding for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees as evidence that the plan will not meet their demands.
