BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:10 P.M.) – Lebanon’s Minister of Defense Elias Bou Saab sat down for an interview with Sputnik Arabic on Saturday to discuss a number of topics, including the possibility of war with Israel.
When asked about the possibility of war with Israel, Bou Saab said it is very unlikely that Lebanon would enter into a war with their neighbor to the south.
“I do not think there is a high chance of military action by Israel against Lebanon,” Bou Saab stated. “It is not in Israel’s or Lebanon’s interest to have a war because a war like this would be harmful.”
“This war will be harmful to the Lebanese people and its economy. This war will also be harmful to the Israelis and the Israelis know that,” he continued.
“If things change at the regional level and the dispute has regional dimensions, Lebanon will try to distance itself and not be a partner in a regional conflict,” he said.
Bou Saab pointed out that Lebanon would not relinquish any part of its land or sea borders in its indirect negotiations with Israel. These negotiations have been mediated by the United States, he continued.
“Lebanon has special conditions for demarcating land and sea borders, it is not a precondition for negotiations,” he added.
