Violent clashes resume at Temple Mount Monday morning
Clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians resumed on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount Monday morning.
Rioters threw stones at officers who responded by firing stun grenades with injuries reported among the Palestinians.
Tensions are high in Israel’s capital with Jerusalem Day activities set to take place Monday with Zionist youth annually marching through the Old City’s Muslim Quarter, perceived by some as a provocative act.
Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai earlier said that the Temple Mount would be closed to Jewish visitors to try and avoid violent confrontations.

Police said they dispersed the protest in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood where demonstrators had thrown stones at security forces. The security forces’ response included deploying a water cannon.
Erdogan brands Israel ‘cruel terrorist’ in outburst over Jerusalem violence
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced Israel as a “cruel terrorist state” in a speech in Ankara.
“Israel, the cruel terrorist state, attacks the Muslims in Jerusalem — whose only concern is to protect their homes… and their sacred values — in a savage manner devoid of ethics,” said Erdogan.
Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem chant in support of Hamas
Palestinian rioters in Jerusalem’s Old City chanted slogans in support of Hamas, the Islamist terror group ruling over the Gaza Strip, echoing the statement issued earlier tonight by its military wing.
The chants included calls to “strike Tel Aviv,” and “redeem al-Aqsa.”
Clashes resume in Old City
Palestinian rioters resumed the clashes with Israeli security forces in Jerusalem’s Old City, as some 75,000 worshippers are estimated to have turned up at the Muslim Quarter for Ramadan prayer. Other estimates put the number as high as 90,000.
