Long-term replacement of Iran oil, not possible: MP

SHANA – A member of the Iranian parliament said offsetting the shortage caused by removal of Iranian oil from the market was not possible in the long run.

Speaking to Shana, Asadollah Ghareh Khani, spokesperson of the parliament’s energy committee, stated that it could be possible to replace Iran’s oil in the market in the short run but it would be impossible in the long run.

“Over the past 40 years, since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the US has always practiced animosity towards Iran and experience shows that the more the Americans show animosity [towards Iran], the Iranians display more integrity and unity and turn threats into opportunities,” the MP said.

He further stated that the Americans had decided to bring Iran’s oil exports by zero by the anniversary of the overthrow of the ‘Din of Espionage’ (the American Embassy in Tehran), “but failed and this futile dream will never come true in the future ever.”

The MP further added that imposition of sanctions on Iran by the US was nothing new and have never brought any achievements for the White House.

On May 2, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the Trump administration would not renew sanctions waivers for importers of Iranian crude oil including Japan, South Korea, Turkey, China and India, when they expire.

The Trump administration has told the five nations that they will no longer be exempt from U.S. sanctions if they continue to import oil from Iran.
