Nasrallah blocks ex-PM Hariri’s demand for nonpartisan government

While Beirut is rocked by violent protests and a government crackdown, former Lebanese PM Saad Hariri stands by his demand for a government of technocrats to lead the country out of a two-month wave of protests. Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah insists on a government representing all the national communities. President Michel Aoun is preparing to launch talks on Monday for naming a new prime minister. Overnight Saturday, protesters set fire to the offices of his party and those of Hariri. Confrontations with Lebanese security forces using rubber bullets and tear gas left 130 injured.  Lebanon, once the banking capital of the Middle East, has meanwhile sunk into bankruptcy and economic paralysis.
