After yesterday’s meeting with US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that this is the best friend Israel has had in the White House. During the press conference, Netanyahu stated that he isn’t interested in sovereignty over the West Bank.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was satisfied with his first meeting with US President Donald Trump since entering office. “I met a lot of presidents,” Netanyahu stated. “This is the best friend we’ve had in the White House.” Right-wing Israeli politicians have praised Trump’s remarks stating that his administration will not necessarily be promoting a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
During the press conference, Netanyahu stated that 2 necessary conditions for peace must be the recognition of the Jewish state and Israel’s security control over the West Bank. He added that he is not interested in Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank or making the Palestinians Israeli nationals. The 2 also discussed the issue of settlements and Trump asked the Israeli Prime Minister to ‘hold back for a little bit.’
Netanyahu also asked the US to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights as an inseparable part of Israel but Trump didn’t give a clear answer. Regarding the transfer of US Embassy to Jerusalem, Netanyahu said that he supports the move but Trump asked for additional time to examine the subject.
