“If Hezbollah decides to enter the war, it will long for the Second Lebanon War,” warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he visited Israeli Defense Force (IDF) soldiers serving on the Lebanon border on Sunday.
Netanyahu further warned Hezbollah against opening a second war front with Israel, saying that doing so would bring Israeli counter-strikes of “unimaginable” magnitude that would wreak “devastation” upon Lebanon.
In an official transcript of a briefing Netanyahu gave Israeli commandos near the Lebanese border, he also said: “I cannot tell you right now if Hezbollah will decide to enter the (Gaza) war fully.”
That war, launched after a devastating cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct 7, was “do or die” for Israel, Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu praises the troops
The prime minister expressed his pride and faith in the soldiers, saying: “You fought with supreme bravery in Gaza; the stories are inspiring.”
“We are now in a double battle. One [part of it] is to slow things down here, and the second [part] is to win an overwhelming victory [in the South] that wipes out Hamas. It is for this purpose that you are holding the line here, and your comrades [in the South] are also prepared for any mission.
“I want to salute you, you are heroes, you are lions. You fought like lions and you [will continue to] fight like lions. The entire nation of Israel stands behind you and salutes you.”
