A Palestinian woman was shot and wounded on Monday evening after attempting to knife troops near the West Bank settlement of Yitzhar, the military said.

Troops opened fire on the woman near the Yitzhar Junction in the northern West Bank when she pulled out a knife and attempted to stab a soldier, the Israel Defense Forces said.

“The soldiers implemented arrest procedures, which included fire at the lower extremeties of the terrorist,” the IDF said in a statement.

No soldiers were injured, the army said.

The woman was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital, according to the Kan public broadcaster.

The suspect was not immediately identified.

The West Bank saw a sharp rise in Palestinian attacks and attempted attacks during the May conflict between Israel and Gaza terror groups and in its aftermath, though the near-daily violence has mostly subsided since.
