ISAIAH 35:6

“For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. ”
REFRESHED AND FILLED ANEW
If you’re anything like me, the sound of water brings comfort. At our home here in Southern California, the summer days and nights can be warm, even hot at times. If you were to walk from our backyard to the front of the house, you would hear the sound of water flowing from fountains that we made sure were well placed for effect. The sound of water seems to cool and comfort the atmosphere around the house. This has a wonderful effect on our minds and senses. It just seems to make things more peaceful and refreshing.
In Isaiah 35:6, the prophet speaks of the day when Jesus Christ will return in His glory at His Second Coming to take His earthly throne, the throne of David in Jerusalem. Then He will establish His millennial kingdom, a time in which the earth will be restored and renewed.
But what about right now? How can we be refreshed today? Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37b-38. Jesus spoke this concerning the Holy Spirit, who would dwell within every believer. We all find ourselves from time to time becoming parched and lifeless in our Christian walk. There are days when difficulties or demands cause us to unwittingly neglect our alone time with the Lord. We may seem to be surviving during these droughts, but after a few days, we become weary. We begin to feel dry and distant from Him.
If you’re in the desert today, I’ve got some great news for you! Right now, you can take a deep plunge into the refreshing flow of the Holy Spirit. He is the One who supplies the Living Water that you need. Even in the spiritual deserts of life, the renewing flow of the Holy Spirit can bring you back around to a fresh vitality in Jesus. There are streams in the desert and if God can cause water to flow in a dry and barren wasteland, He can certainly do much more for you.
Here’s what you need to do – turn back toward Him and ask Him to forgive you of your busyness and for neglecting the sweet and soothing private time that He invites all to enjoy daily. Get alone and pray asking for more and more of Him to be present in your life. As you ask Him, trust Him to do it. Remember, He wants you refreshed and filled anew by His Spirit, even more than you do.
