With Bashar al-Assad getting the upper hand in the Syrian civil war, the IDF said it is aware of a new threat due to a significant rise in the number of Shiites and Alawites loyal to Assad and Iranian forces within the country, reported Israel Hayom.
According to the report, as socioeconomic conditions in Syria deteriorate, Hezbollah may take advantage of the situation to recruit support among the local Shiites, similar to their campaign in Lebanon.
