Russia is slated to deliver advanced Mikoyan MiG-35 fighter jets to Khmeimim Air Base, a key Russian base in Syria, Hebrew-language outlet Mako reported Monday.
According to the report, the delivery is part of a marketing campaign in order to sell the aircraft to foreign states, nations such as Peru, Malaysia and Syria, which have expressed interest in procuring the new fighter jets.
Egypt has already struck a deal with the Kremlin, adding the MiG-35 to its air force ranks, Mako reported.
The MiG-35 is a 4++ generation jet fighter, with a double-engine operated by two pilots and reaches maximum speed of Mach 2.25.
The war-torn Middle Eastern country of Syria has been used somewhat as “Moscow’s war games arena” in recent years, experts noted, according to Mako.
The Russians have supplied Bashar al-Assad’s regime with a slew of arms, unmanned armored fighting vehicles, MI-28 fighter helicopters and ground-to-air KH-29L missiles.
