The announcement “…says the LORD” is given multiple times in this little verse. This short phrase must be of great importance to the Lord, which in turn should make it doubly important to us. The call to return to the Lord is given to the one who has wandered away.
How unlike me is the Lord! When someone does not desire my company, I will leave as quickly and as quietly as is possible. After all, why should I stay when my absence is desired instead? But our God never gives up on those who would rather not have His company. His willingness to heal a fractured relationship with one of His children is beyond human reason and resource. Thanks be to God for He is always there when the wayward child returns. If today you find yourself sensing a distance from God, remember that it is you who have moved and not Him. Return now and enjoy the glad and blessed reunion of being in His presence again. – Pastor Jack
