BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:20 P.M.) – New satellite images from the Israel-based Image Satellite International revealed this past week that the Russian Hmeimim Airbase was undergoing some kind of contraction and potential expansion.
According to Image Satellite International, the Russian project is not fully known yet; however, they believe it is likely the construction of new bunkers at the Hmeimim Airport.

The Russian military took over the Hmeimim Airbase in late 2015. Since then, it has become their primary base inside of Syria.
Recently, the jihadist rebels in rural Idlib have repeatedly tried to bomb the Hmeimim Airbase in retaliation for their bombardment of the southern part of the demilitarized zone.
The Russian Ministry of Defense maintains that none of the rockets fired from the militant drones hit the Hmeimim Airbase.
