Six Saudi nationals were detained for questioning on Friday after Saudi Air Force second lieutenant Mohammed Saeed Al-Shamrani shot three people dead and injured 8 others at the Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida before he was taken down. Three of the Saudis filmed the shooting as it happened and were detained as a terror probe was launched. Al-Shamrani is suspected of releasing an online manifesto that slammed the US as a ‘nation of evil’ prior to the attack. He arrived in 2017 for a three-year aviation training course in the US . At present, 18 Saudi air force naval aviators and two aircrew members were training with the US Navy, including at Pensacola, according to a November 15 press release from the Navy. Saudi Air Force officers selected for military training in the United States are intensely vetted by both countries. Air force personnel usually come from the Saudi elite.
