Syria, Iran and Iraq discuss means to enhance cooperation in railway linking

Tehran, SANA- Syria discussed with Iran and Iraq means to enhance mutual cooperation in the domain of railway linking and  increasing transit and the exports and imports between the three countries

That came during a tripartite meeting held in Tehran on Wednesday between  Director- General of the General Establishment of Syrian Railways Najib al-Fares and his Iranian counterpart Saeid Rasouli and Iraqi counterpart Taleb Jawad Kazem.

During the meeting, Rasouli declared that the project of linking Imam Khomeini Port on the Iranian side of the Gulf water with Lattakia port on the Mediterranean Sea was on the table during the meeting.

He indicated that the project of linking the Iranian city of Shalamja with the Iraqi city of Bosra through a distance of 32 km will start after about three months and it will be carried out and financed by Iran, and it will be completed by linking Shalamja with Imam Khomeini Port and linking Bosra with Lattakia port.

Al-Fares, for his part, hailed the project, indicating that Syria realizes the importance of linking railways in the three countries as it would invigorate trade relations between them.

Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Khairullah Khademi, who attended the tripartite meeting, called for accelerating the implementation of the project pf linking the cities of Shalamja and Bosra whose agreement was signed during the visit of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Iraq in March 2019.
