State television said the air defense system had downed Israeli missiles

Syrian air defenses reportedly intercepted Israeli missiles over the city of Homs, state news agency SANA reported on Tuesday.

“The air defenses shot down a number of missiles before they reached their targets,” official news agency SANA reported, without identifying the targets in Homs province. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

A military source was quoted as saying that the rockets were fired by the Israeli air force from Lebanese airspace.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said the target was a military airport where Iranian forces are present.
