BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:45 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army sent a large convoy of reinforcements to the Iraqi border on Wednesday, a source from the military told Al-Masdar News this afternoon.

According to the military source, the Syrian Arab Army reinforcements were deployed to the highway near the T-2 Pumping Station in rural Deir Ezzor.

The source said that the reinforcements were sent to this area to ensure the safety of the international highway as they prepare to reopen this imperative roadway that links the Syrian and Iraqi capitals.

This move also coincides with the recent deployment of Hashd Al-Sha’abi reinforcements to the Syrian border with the Al-Anbar Governorate.

The Syrian government is hoping to reopen the international highway before month’s end as this roadway will boost their trade and commerce with Iraq.

Furthermore, this will also give Iran the ability to transport supplies to the Syrian military and government from neighboring Iraq.
