Tears in His Bottle

Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (Psalm 56:8)

In an hour of despair, it is easy to allow ourselves to think that if God were REALLY with us, and REALLY loved us, that He would not allow us to suffer. Yet He does. And according to this verse, He is aware, and cares about, every tear we might shed.

This is not merely sentimental poetry. It is God’s way of revealing to us that nothing that happens to His people goes unnoticed, or is of no value. If God figuratively gathers up every tear in His bottle, and records every tear in His book, then even though we might not understand WHY – we can be sure that there is a purpose of God is allowing us to shed tears – even if that purpose is nothing more than to bring us to the end of ourselves so that our faith might be solely in Christ
