The Petulant Pelosi

Unsurprising but still stunning.

In an utterly classless display of infuriated petulance, Democrats spent the President’s State of the Union showing their utter contempt for:

– A young African-American girl from Philadelphia, fourth-grader Janiyah Davis, who had been denied the school choice that the children of wealthy Democrats have always had. Democrat Governor Tom Wolfe of Pennsylvania had “vetoed legislation to expand school choice to 50,000 children” in Pennsylvania, so beholden to powerful teachers unions was he. But the President announced that an “Opportunity Scholarship had become available” for Janiyah, and her dream – and her mother’s dream – of going to the school of their choice had finally come true.

– A star-struck thirteen-year-old African-American teenager, Iain Lanphier.  Ian wants to go to the Air Force Academy and then join the Space Force. His hero is his grandfather, Charles McGee, whom the President introduced as “one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen — the first black fighter pilots — and he also happens to be Iain’s great-grandfather.” The President had recently signed the promotion papers making Iain’s great-grandfather, now 100 years old, Brigadier General Charles McGee.

– Two-year-old Ellie Schneider. Said the President: “In 2017, doctors at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City delivered one of the earliest premature babies ever to survive.  Born at just 21 weeks and 6 days, and weighing less than a pound, Ellie Schneider was a born fighter.  Through the skill of her doctors and the prayers of her parents, little Ellie kept on winning the battle of life.  Today, Ellie is a strong, healthy two-year-old girl sitting with her amazing mother Robin in the Gallery. Ellie reminds us that every child is a miracle of life.  And thanks to modern medical wonders, 50 percent of very premature babies delivered at the hospital where Ellie was born now survive.  It’s an incredible thing….

Our goal should be to ensure that every baby has the best chance to thrive and grow just like Ellie.

That is why I’m also calling upon members of Congress here tonight to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies.  (Applause.)  Whether we are Republican, Democrat, or independent, surely we must all agree that every human life is a sacred gift from God.”

And then there was Rush Limbaugh. Recently diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, Rush was in the gallery, seated between wife Kathryn and First Lady Melania Trump. To his obvious surprise, Rush was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, presented on the spot by the First Lady.

Through all of this and more Democrats sat on their hands. They scowled, they glared, they smirked.

As Scott McKay at The American Spectator noted,  praise from the President for American heroes past – he named Thomas Edison, Teddy Roosevelt, George Washington, Generals John Pershing, George Patton, and Douglas MacArthur, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, the Wright Brothers, Neil Armstrong, and Wyatt Earp, Davy Crockett, and Annie Oakley – fell on deaf ears attached to stony faces.

And at the end? As the President stood at the podium, Speaker Nancy Pelosi ostentatiously stood behind him – and ripped her text of the speech literally in half, later calling the speech “dirty.”

Got it. Message received. Celebrating both young aspiring and inspiring Americans like Janiyah Davis, Iain Lanphier, and  Ellie Schneider and Iain’s 100-year old Tuskegee Airmen great-grandfather General Charles McGee is somehow “dirty.” Celebrating criminal justice reform for African-Americans – that Trump got done after President Obama and Democrats  could not – this is  “dirty.”

You can bet, yet again, the Trump-hating elites, this time starring not CNN’s Don Lemon and Never Trumpers Rick Wilson and Wajahat Ali snickering about Trump-supporting “boomer rubes” but the Petulant Pelosi, will have just provided the Trump campaign even more material for a commercial.

An ad that will showcase the Democrats’ utter contempt for both their fellow Americans and, yes indeed, America itself.
