Three Killed and Dozens Injured as Protests Continue in Iraq Overnight

Protests continue for the 16th week throughout Iraq; Security forces are reported to have killed at least 3 protestors and wounded at least 50 others, with that number on the rise.

Southern Iraq and Baghdad are facing another serious wave of protests as of Sunday evening/Monday morning. Early reports indicate that security forces have already killed at least 3 protestors and wounded a minimum of 50 others, with both numbers likely on the rise. Security forces didn’t wait long before they starting shooting at protestors with live ammunition.

In both Iran and Iraq, the protests are focused on what is being labeled as a corrupt government and regime. Interestingly enough, the vast majority of protestors are making it clear that they don’t believe the enemy is the USA or Israel, but they believe ‘the enemy is from within’, referring to the radical regimes of the corrupt leaders. Additionally, they’re burning pictures of former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US strike a couple of weeks ago.

Despite the opposition of the regime and their security forces (many are Iranian-backed), the protesters remain determined to bring about a complete change in their government. It is estimated that over 500 people have been killed since the protests began, and over 20,000 have been wounded.
