US airstrikes targeted sites used by Iranian militias in al-Bukamal in the Deir Ezzor region of eastern Syria on Sunday night, according to initial reports by Syrian media outlets, including sources both opposed to and supportive of the Assad regime.
At least one rocket attack targeting US forces in Deir Ezzor was reported by local sources in the hours leading up to the airstrikes.
