US forces evacuated the Al Qaim base on the Iraqi-Syrian border on Tuesday, bringing to an end their joint operation with Israel for blocking the main crossing point into Syria against the transit of Iranian forces and their proxy militias. Following the base’s handover to the Iraqi army, their incursion can only be interrupted henceforth by air strikes.
